Jackson Hole, Wyoming - February, 2003

Jennifer Vest joined us for a ski trip to Jackson Hole.

Highlights:

  • Jennifer sits in the back
  • Yellowstone
    • Old Faithful
    • Alicia and the Buffalo
  • Jackson Hole
  • Grand Targhee

Jennifer Sits in the Back

Just like the Seinfeld episode where Jerry is up front (First Class) and Elaine is in the back (coach) on a flight, Alicia and I used our frequent flier miles to upgrade to First Class and left poor Jennifer in the back. Alicia's joy was halted abruptly when we landed at Jackson Hole and they wheeled the stairs up to the plane.

"We have to walk down stairs?!? But we're flying First Class!"

Alicia and the Buffalo

In a scene reminiscent of the movie Michael when John Travolta says "Challenge!" and proceeds to head-butt a bull in a pasture, Alicia decided she had had enough of a pesky female buffalo that was blocking her way and intentionally sauntering at an absurdly slow gait. Even though we were cautioned to give a wide berth to the wildlife, especially the buffalo, Alicia starts to drive her snowmobile by the offending creature. As Alicia draws near the buffalo, the buffalo turns and charges Alicia on her sled. Alicia gasses the sled and narrowly escapes being head butted.

Jackson Hole

The very next day, Bill was skiing without the girls on a traverse and spotted a Moose in the middle of the trail. One after another, skiers came up behind and paused. After only a few moments a snowboarder said "I've waited long enough" and headed down the trail. The Moose charged and narrowly missed the boarder.

I don't know if the Moose and the Buffalo were bluffing, but it was obvious that in both situations they could have reached their target, and if the did, they would have inflicted serious injury.

Respect the wildlife!!!

Grand Targhee

You have to drive through Idaho to get there, but Grand Targhee is certainly not crowded. The locals say it's worth going right after a dump of snow and you can ski powder all day!
