Introduction:

Welcome to Brookport's Web Page. What is "Brookport?" More correctly it should be "Who" is Brookport! No physical building of any kind could ever be the Lord's "church," of course. When the Lord spoke of building his church (Matt. 16:18) he spoke of people. His people. The people He was going to save for eternal life, and did save (Acts Chapter 2). You will enjoy meeting some of these people when you visit us for worship, study and fellowship..
The Lord has blessed this congregation since its beginning in 1923, with adequate facilities for Scripture study well suited to the gatherings for Worship, and other matters related to the spiritual growth and well being of those who identify with "Brookport."
The church of (or in) Brookport also includes our neighboring congregation that meets at 3rd and Crockett. These are lovable and dedicated brethren, with whom we enjoy a mutually beneficial relationship.

This Sunday morning one of our four pulpit preacher, Bill Hensley, Hank Tankersley, Gary Hoyt, or Bill Smith will speak on some worthy Bible topic. We try to "speak where the Bible speaks and remain silent whee the Bible is silent." We will attempt to give Book, Chapter and Verse for all that is taught from our pulpit and in our Bible classes. Come and see! Let's study about this.

This Sunday evening the preacher will continue the theme of "The Uniqueness Of Christ's Church." Bring your Bible and study this important subject with us.

The Elders, Shepherds, Overseers, of the Flock at North Crockett

We suggest a group picture, standing as if ready to go out, and some at least with a Bible visible. Most pictures of the elders is in a conference room setting which indicates more of a decision making environment than a shepherding one.

"Ordain elders in every city," Paul said (Tit. 1:5). To these elders Peter said, "Feed (shepherd)  the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind; neither as being lords over God's heritage, but being ensamples to the flock" (1Pe. 5:2,3). And to the flock the Holy Spirit said, "Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you" (Heb. 13:17).

The Evangelists

In the beginning Paul told a young evangelist (Titus) to "set things in order" among the congregations. Over seventy-five years ago certain evangelists helped to set things in order at this place, and today Brookport is the continuing result.
Bill Hensley is presently the competent and respected evangelist for Brookport, and ably assisted by Hank Tankersley, Gary Hoyt and Bill Smith. As the chief spokesman for the congregation Brother Hensley is an accomplished speaker, and an excellent student of the Scriptures. Come and see!
Would you enjoy hearing our preachers' sermons on tape? They are available. Call 270 534-8980 and you may obtain them. They are also available on the Internet. Let us know. Would you enjoy a visit by one of our Evangelists? A home study of the Scriptures? Need counseling or just a "get acquainted" visit? Just call. We'll be happy to obligue.

Our Special Servants (Deacons), Selected By The Congregation
To Tend To Necessary Duties And Responsibilities

It is suggested that the deacons be grouped according to their work, and not as a total group. Deacons are to be "set" over a particular business, according to their abilities and the congregation's needs.

When special needs arose in the beginning, the apostles told the congregation, "Look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business. But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word" (Acts 6:3,4). men of certain character and practical ability, that "we may set over this business." Deacons are godly men who give time and talent to further the Lord's work for the congregation. The apostles had too much to do then, the elders are likewise burdened with feeding the flock, and so servants are selected and appointed. The ones who selected them must support them, and honor them.

The Church Of Christ
The Lord is the only one in all Sacred Scripture connected with "building" a Church. "I will build my church," he said (Mat. 16:18). We at this place then, as servants of Christ, are dedicated to "helping the Lord build His church." This is not in an advisory role, but as obedient servants of the Master, who is our Saviour now, and will eventually become our judge. Our service to the Lord is concerned with:

Helping The Lord Build His Church

To Our Visitors To Our Web Page

We invite you to come and share your worship and Scripture study with us in person. We will do our part to make you feel glad that you came, and hopefully back again.

If you live in the Paducah extended area, some one of us will ask you for the priviledge of visiting you in your home. We will present a copy of our Program of Work for the coming years, and show many of the things we've covered in our Web page in greater detail. We want you to know more about us, and hopefully share in the great unfinished work of the Lord in the "River City" area.
