HISTORY:

Jackson Purchase was named after Andrew JACKSON an American Statesman & Soldier, 7th President of the US born in Waxhaw Settlement, NC, 15 th Mar 1767 died 8 June 1845 near Nashville, TN. He married Mrs. Rachel Robards nee Donelson - first) 1 Aug 1791 in Natchez; only to find out that Rachel was not divorced from Captain Lewis Robards, an army officer Jackson & Rachel were remarried 17 Jan 1794 in Nashville.

When the War of 1812 broke out in 1814 Jackson was made a Major General and put in command of the Department of the South. He soon repulsed the enemy at Mobile, took Pensacola by storm and then marched to New Orleans, where he fortified the city. The British were repulsed in half an hour.

Jackson's Victory was complete which made him the hero of the nation.

When Fla was purchased from Spain- Jackson was appointed its governor.

Sometime during this period General Jackson and former KY Governor Isaac Shelby handled the treaty that landed-from the Chickasaw Indians -what we now know as the Jackson Purchase Area which included more then just the eight counties of KY.
