The House in the Woods
Part 1:  Cleanup

September, 2005

Here's an outside view.  We stayed for about five days working on the house so we set up our camper.  This way we wouldn't have to drive the eighty mile round trip every night going home.  This picture is a few days into it.  The pile of rubble in the front was much larger before it was all done.  It consisted of all the particle board carpet underlayment from the first floor and what was left of a large built in shelf unit in the eat-in kitchen that we tore out.  The smoke on the left is from our burn barrel.

Another picture of the front of the house with the demolition pile.  The washer and dryer are on the front porch.  The gas range which is filthy to the point of being unsalvageable is out front on the left.

Let's look at some of the dirt.  These photos don't even begin to show the extent of how bad it was.

Below, a look at the carpet in the living room before we tore it out.

The eye-watering view out one of the windows.
Note the dead carpenter bees stuck between the storm window and the screen.

The infamous kitchen window (with the eggshell) above the sink.

Alison pointing at the dirty washer and dryer.
We also removed the sink and cabinet between them.
You should have seen the piles of trash underneath all the appliances.
Janet took some photos with a film camera.
I'll post those when they're developed.

What's left after we removed the built-in that was in the eat-in kitchen.  The photo below shows a view of the eat-in along with the formal dining room.  Some of the hardwood flooring is shown acclimating to the house before being laid.  I lost count of the times I hit my head on that damn hanging lamp.
