Before and After
Part 10:  July '07

July, 2007

In this last two-part installment of the House in the Woods series, here are some selected "before and after" shots of some of the improvements we've made over the last two years.  We didn't photodocument everything, but luckily we did catch a few moments for posterity.  Here are our favorites.

First, the most dramatic difference is the view out one of the living room windows toward the back field.

This first picture is from 9/2005, right after we bought the place.  I had already mowed the field in this picture so it doesn't show how grown up it was.

Same view, after.  Yes, this is actually looking out the same window.

We cut down a large ash tree that was behind and leaning dangerously toward the house.  In this picture, most of the limbs have already been cut.

Good thing we cut it down.  The trunk was hollow.

After.  Nice pile of ash for burning this winter.

Back to the field, here's a look at a clump of trees consisting of mostly Winged Elm and Cedar, with one Dogwood growing up through the middle of one Cedar.  We actually have several similar areas in the field.

In progress.  You might be able to see me with a chainsaw in the middle of one of the Cedars.

After.  Still a little more to do that's not shown in this picture.

No "before" picture, but this is looking at an old road bed we discovered and cleared.  It goes on into the woods and down a steep hill before merging with the path leading to the lake.

Let's take a look at the house.  Big changes there, also.  Click here for part two.
