| Well, after the big push to get the flooring redone and get moved in, and with it getting dark fairly early, work on the place has slowed a bit. I've got two rooms done changing out the electrical receptacles. Slow going because it involves redoing the wiring where someone split all the outlets, wiring the top outlet to a switch in the room and having the bottom outlet unswitched. I'm keeping one or two outlets in each room switched and making the rest completely unswitched.
Lots of yard raking. We completely cleared out the bottom of a large cedar tree behind our wellhouse. The lower branches were all hanging down and were overgrown with vines (some of it poison ivy as Janet was unfortunate enough to discover) and we've cut them off and opened it up under the tree. Here is some more... |
| We cut some large limbs off a big oak tree in front of the house. |
 |
| Tore down the unsightly and completely overgrown henhouse and removed the fencing. In this photo, most of it is down and the overgrown brush has been cleared. | |
 |
| Here we are cutting up and hauling out some fallen trees that were lying in the woods right behind the house. The hardwood ended up in the firewood pile for indoors and the pine and other softwoods went to the bonfire pile. |

| "Moderate White". That's the color we went with for the ceiling. It was kind of a stretch for us because we've always gone with the traditional white ceilings but decided to try something new. It turned out really good. Here, we're just starting to roll the ceiling after cutting around the edges. In this room we had lots of old nail holes, some torn drywall paper, and a hole in a wall where the floor guys hit it with something. All patched.
Oh, and say goodbye to the tangerine walls. | |
| Here the ceiling is painted. Cutting in prior to rolling the walls.
The ceiling doesn't look nearly as dark as it did when the paint was first going on. I think when we eventually put up crown molding (and paint it white) the contrast will be more dramatic. |
