Trice Family Research Page July thru October 1996 |
If anyone shares these families with me and would like to exchange info, I'd love to hear from you.
The Gibson family was living in either Helena Ark or Brinkley Ark. I was told a couple of weeks ago that Maggie's brother, George Gibson was buried in Brinkley along with Baggett relatives.

As you can see, I need all the help I can get! My Miss__Trice & Jonathan Day, Sr. had several children before she died. Jonathan moved to Ms Territory with his children where his daughter Rebecca Day* married Isom/Isham Randall*, 1810, Amite Co., MS.
If anything looks like it connects to your line, please let me know. I am interested in each generation and would like to fill in the gaps and build up my data. I am particularly interested in John Trice, Sr. and the GA group because this is where my Day line starts and I need a lot of direction in this area. Will trade GEDCOM (which I have finally learned how to make!!!!). Hope to hear from some of you if we can share knowledge, or even if we can't!
NOTES for James:
James and Rhoda Trice had 9 sons, of which James M. was eighth, and 3 daughters.

Dear Ham, Just rec. your message and glad to find another Trice. We were just in Tennessee and there are scads of Trices in the Clarksville area. Don't know the origin however, have heard that Trice is for quick and also a hoist or tackle on a sailing ship so perhaps sailors in our ancestory. It is English as there are Trices still there and new immigrants as well. Our line has been in the US for 2 hundred years.
What is your line? Who is your oldest ancestor? Where did they come from.?
Would love to know more. There is a cousin who is trying to put a book together and has been working on it for over 20 years. He lives in Louisville, Ky.
See you, Peggy
Response From Nancy Trice
I am hoping someone out there can provide some input, as I'm sure there are others and we are probably related. Years ago, my mother cut an article out of a newspaper with a Senator in GA with the last name of Bentley. He was a decendent of a family of Trice's. He lived in the Thomaston, GA area. I understand that there is a large family of Trice's in the area. I know of some in the Albany, GA area.
Hopefully, there is someone with information out there that will be able to provide the information as to where the name "TRICE" originated.
Other possible surnames would include BAGGETT.
Sarah Trice married Joseph Barbee 1 Oct 1782 in Orange County, NC
Their daughter Nancy Barbee married John Spencer Meachem. They were apparently in Monroe Co. Illinois by the time Spencer died because Nancy was appointed guardian of their children in 1839 in that county. By the time it got down to my wife's great grandmother Eliza, the name was called Mitchem.
Hi Ted... I don't have her ancestry... There is reference made by Dr. Tidwell that "a will made prior to Edward's by ___ Trice, mentions Edward married Tabitha; James married Sarah - (James died 1779), Joseph, John." He also speculates that Tabitha might have been Tabitha Moore instead of Tabitha Harrison.
Also, "Will of James Trice, recorded Aug 1781, Bk A pg 223, same county mentions wife Sarah, property given to sons, James and Joseph and brother John Trice, and to Charles Trice, son of brother Edward Trice."
Is this the same Sarah Trice that you are asking about???
I also wonder about the 2 year gap between the time James died and his will recorded...
I haven't done any personal research in NC or VA... everything I have is from books, etc. so I can't vouch for any of this info.

The information you have provided has been GREAT. I knew there had to be others, as the surname "TRICE" is not one you hear every day. Thanks! I will definitely keep in touch. Again Thanks.
