GIBSON, RHEUARK posted by Shirley A. Moore on 11/19/96
Does anyone know a woman named Mrs. Jate Trice. She was alive in 1946. She may have been a Gibson before her marriage. She had the Gibson family Bible in her possession at that time for my grandmother Maggie Gibson Rheuark to use for proof of birth.

P. S. I'll keep asking this same question till someone tells me.

Dear Nancy, I am doing research on the surnames Gaines and Hillix in Woodford Co., KY, but while I was searching the net for sources, I found the KyGenWeb pages and a reference to your involvement in the project. Coincidentally my Grandmother Helen Gaines' maiden name was Trice and my family records indicate she was decended from S.S. Trice. He was called Sam. He would have been my GGG Grandfather. He came from KY to Clinton Co., MO in about 1840. I believe his DOB would have been around 1820-25, possibly Woodford or Fayette Co.

I was, of course, wondering if you see any possible connection here. I also hoped you might be able to refer me to the person who is coordinating the KyGenWeb work for Woodford Co. If you have a GED COM file available on the net for Trice, I would be glad to download it and search for any connections. I was also wondering if you might refer me to any other sources of information on Trice. Thanks and rgds.,

I responded as follows;
I would sure like to know more about the Clinton Co Mo Trices... Dabney Nelson Trice, b 1826, Hopkins Co, (now Webster) Ky, died in Clinton Co Mo in 1903 according to info I have received. His brother, Joel Y(Yancey?) Trice died in 1881 in Webster Co, and the following PA was recorded.

Power of Attorney. Dabney N Trice of Clinton Co, Mo appoints Perry F Trice and Charles W Trice... receipt of property of my deceased brother Joel Y Trice of Webster Co, Ky. 10 Oct 1881. Dabney N Trice, seal. Webster Co, Ky DB 14, p 568, 569.

Dabney married Rebecca LANCASTER 3 May 1853... I assume the marr took place in Clinton Co since I have not been able to locate it in either Hopkins or Webster Co, Ky. I have been told they had the following children:
Charles, b 1854
Perry, b 1856
Alice, b 1859
Sarah (Frances), b 1862
I have no other information on these children. Rebecca was b abt 1836 and d abt 1862 according to my info...

Someone told me that the Trice's had some kind of a business in Clinton Co... It's not entered in my database yet and I can't remember exactly what it was... hardware store or grocery store??? I'll have to try to find the notes and pass it on to everyone on the Trice list...

I'm working on a Trice family. Martha H. Trice, born 19 September 1808 in Virginia, married John Norwood Gates. They went to California in 1859.

Martha's father is probably Tandy H. Trice. She named one of her sons, Tandy Holman Trice. A Martha Trice is listed as a daughter in Tandy Trice's will from Cumberland County, KY.

Are any of these names familiar to you?

I am a Trice also, and wonder if you have any knowledge of a Rev. Joe Trice m. to Mary or Elizabeth Corbett. He was b. abt 1838, was a Methodist minister who went from AL to TX. Thanks.

I wrote back to Flora asking her for more details on this line. Her response follows.
Hi, Cannot add a lot to what I've told you:

Joe Trice, b. 1838, don't know where, was a Methodist minister who went from AL to TX, he m. a Mary or Elizabeth Corbett. She is supposed to be a first cousin to Gentleman Jim Corbett. They had at least 2 children: Alf Trice, and Lucy Belle Trice b. 1885 in Oakbranch TX. D. 1929. She m. James Anderson Geer. The Geer family came to TX from SC. That is all I have on them. I found a Joe Trice in AL but m. to Ophelia Rogers - doesn't seem to be mine Thanks for any help, Flora

Flora, the GEER family is quite well documented in the GEER book. If you can find this book and can make the connection to the Geer's in New England, I can give you lots of info. This is one of my lines. (Trice is my husbands line). I can't find the address, but there is a Geer Family Association. They will be glad to help you I'm sure. Check the Gen. Helper that lists all the associations. If you can't find a copy of the book you might try posting on the TN-ROOTS list for someone that lives in Nashville. I know this book is in the Tn State Library and Archives.

Thank you for your welcome to the Trice list.

I semi-retired a year ago and returned to live in East Kent where I was born, it is only since then that I have started researching into my family history, the discovery of my TRICE ancestry is fairly recent.

My TRICE connection is with one of my 3 x g.grandmothers who was Elisabeth TRICE, she was married at St. Michaels Church, Hernhill, Kent on 23rd.July 1876 to James FOREMAN. One of the witnesses of the marriage was William TRICE, the marriage register states that she was of the Parish of Boughton-under-Blean, Kent but I havn't found a record of her baptism in the registers of that parish nor have I yet found anywhere a record of her burial. I know from reading "The Last Rising of the Agricultural Labourers" by Barry Reay (page 66) that in 1840 she was a widow, owned Dargate Farm, Dargate, Kent and belonged to the Methodist Church.

Nowadays whenever I get the opportunity to do any research I am keeping a record of all references to the TRICE name that I encounter.

DUMAS, HALLOM, HICKS, HIX, SMITH, TERHUNE, THOMASSON posted by Katie Blackmore on 06/24/97
I found your web site yesterday via FTM Internet Search and signed up on the Trice mailing list. My great-grandmother was a Trice. She is a daughter of Charles Yancy Trice, Jr., who is listed on your web pages.

I have just started researching my family history in February and have really only gotten as far as family papers. Fortunately, my grandmother has given me quite a few, so I haven't done much independent research yet. However, I have gotten back as far as Dabney Nelson Trice and Unity Smith Thommason (both on your site). The records from my family also indicate that Unity Smith's mother was Eva Terhune, but I don't have anything more than just the name, and I'm not sure yet how reliable it is.

My response to Katie; Unity Smith? Who is she? Questions questions questions. Unity Smith Thommason listed above, wife of Dabney Trice (no indication whatsoever that his middle name was Nelson) was the d/o William Thomasson and his wife Unity Hicks/Hix. William, b abt 1759 in Hanover Co?, died prior to 14 Dec 1795 (date his will was probated) in Louisa Co Va. On 11 Feb 1809, Dabney Trice and Unity Smith Thomasson were married in Louisa Co. Later that year, Unity, her mother Unity Hicks Thomasson, (d/o Pewid Hix and his wife Temperance DUMAS), her brother David H(icks?) Thomasson and her sister Martha "Patsy" Thomasson, left Va and came to what was then Hopkins Co, Ky. Dabney and Unity Trice both died in 1836 and are buried in the Trice Cemetery located on the Mack Scott Farm not far from Dixon in what is now Webster Co, Ky. I don't know if there were other siblings or not.

William Thommasons first wife was Elizabeth HALLOM. She apparently died prior to 1786 and I have found no children for them. William and Unity Hicks were married in Louisa Co Va on 18 Apr 1786.

I would be very interested in knowing where the Eva Terhune name came from. That is a name that is brand new to me. Since I know it is not Unity's mothers name, I wonder if possibly the Smith surname might come from the mother of Pewid Hix? I have no idea who his parents were.

DAY, RANDALL posted by Elaine Randall English on 06/25/97
Hi all... It's been a long time since I posted to the TRICE list, but seeing the recent activity has inspired me! Still looking for the given name and burial site of MISS TRICE, daughter of John TRICE, Sr. who died in 1812 in Jones Co., GA. MISS TRICE married Jonathan DAY but seems to have died before 1810, when Jonathan remarried in MS. The daughter of MISS TRICE and Jonathan DAY, my ggg grandmother, was Rebecca DAY who married Isom/Isham RANDALL in 1810 in Amite Co., MS. And while I'm at it, does anyone know where John TRICE, Sr. is buried? Anyone out there with any connection or ideas?

Nancy (and others),
I am going to try to answer the questions you posted in the previous mailing to this group without including all of the questions themselves. I hope this is appropriate for this mailing list and doesn't confuse anyone.

The Unity Smith I was refering to is Unity Smith Thommason, wife of Dabney Trice.

In some notes from my g-grandmother, she had: "Dabney Nelson Trice (b. Feb. 3, 1784 - d. Feb. 1, 1836) married Unity Smith Thommason (b. June 22, 1787, d. June 13, 1836). (They were related to some of the early Virginia families - Bullock, Hix, Yancy)"

I'm not sure who the "they" refers to (Dabney Trice or Unity Smith Thommason), but it matches with the Hix lineage you included in the previous message.

So I'm not sure at this point where Eva Terhune comes in. MOST of my information so far has come from handwritten notes from my g-grandmother (Katherine Elizabeth Trice, daughter of Charles Yancy Trice, Jr. and Luna Estelle Drake) and her mother, my gg-grandmother.

Some basic information on Charles Yancy Trice, Jr., that you asked for... He was born in Cameron, Missouri on October 28, 1853. I'm not sure what county that was in. He died in October 17, 1915 in Ashdown, Arkansas. He married Peralee Jean (Miller Steen) and had two children: Harriet Antoinette Trice and Don Charles Trice (b. December 22, 1886 - d. February 09, 1940). Peralee died (date unknown) and Charles Yancy Trice, Jr. married Luna Estelle Drake (b. February 20, 1871 - d. November 03, 1938). They had three daughters: Ruth Trice (b. 1892 - d. June 22, 1901), Helen Trice (b. December 22, 1894 - d. January 1978), and Katherine Elizabeth Trice (b. September 20, 1903 - d. October 09, 1988). Katherine Elizabeth was my g-grandmother. Most of the further descendants are still alive, so I don't know if it is "proper" to post here.

I do know that the parents of Charles Yancy Trice, Jr. were Charles Yancy Trice, Sr. and Mary (Ann) Winstead. What I have in my file (which again is just from handwritten family notes) is that Mary Winstead's parents were William Winstead and Sarah Morrow. But that is as far back on that side as I have. I would like to see the information you have on the Winstead line (I didn't see much on the Web site).

I would love to exchange gedcom files with anyone who is even partly related. But I have to ask kind of a basic question. When is it "acceptable" to exchange files? Since I have just started, I don't have much transferred to electronic formats yet. However, I have copies of lots of newspaper articles, obituaries, and letters of Charles Yancy Trice, Jr. and his descendants. Is it "proper" to exchange files before I've entered all of the information I have already collected or should I wait? I know genealogy research never ends, but I thought normally it went back in time, and I'm adding information on descendants. Please let me know if you would like this "draft" gedcom.

As far as other information I have, which others might like. At this point I have electronic versions of the obituaries for Charles Yancy Trice, Sr., Charles Yancy Trice, Jr., and Don Charles Trice (who I don't think has any descendants). I also have a copy of the bill from the undertaker for Charles Yancy Trice, Sr., and many newspaper clippings on Charles Yancy Trice, Jr., since he was the mayor of Lamar, Missouri at one point. I also have the obituary and lots of other papers for Luna Estelle Drake (wife of Charles Yancy Trice, Jr.) and some of their descendants that I have not yet transcribed.

If anyone would like copies of these, or a gedcom of my small file, please let me know.
Katie

Hi Nancy,
Making a TRICE page is a GREAT idea! I have only been researching these guys for about 3 weeks and luckily stumbled into Elaine English and Kathryn Young who tell me that my William Lewis TRICE b 1825 TN is the son of James TRICE b 1787 Orange Co. NC m Zilpha MALLORY. I have census records that document my Dad to William Lewis TRICE's son, Cammillus b 1862 Hopkinsville, Christian Co. KY; and Cammillus to William Lewis TRICE, but have not yet done the independent research to tie William Lewis to James. Hope to have that info soon; then I can add my TRICEs to your page.

As I read what I've written, it sounds confusing. This is the connection:

James TRICE b 1787 Orange Co. NC m Zilpha MALLORY . William Lewis TRICE b 1825 Montgomery Co. TN m 1860 Anne OVERBY .. Cammillus TRICE b 1862 Christian Co., KY m Anna Jeannette STAUGH ... Charles Edward TRICE b 1896 TX m Beatrice SALTER .... me Thanks for doing a TRICE page.
