ANDERSON, DABNEY, LEIGH, MAY, SHEPHERD, SMITH, THOMASSON posted by Mary Lou Lisenbe on 07/02/97
Trice researchers,
There seems to be some kind of naming pattern for TRICE folks. I've noticed that a DABNEY married a TRICE; then I run across a man named Dabney TRICE. Same for May, Anderson, Shepherd, Leigh.

What do you make of this?

You are absolutely right Mary Lou... which makes me think of something... someone said that Dabney who married Unity Smith Thomasson (my line) was Dabney Nelson. I've never seen a record that had Nelson as his middle name but there is a Dabney Nelson in each of the subsequent generations for several generations. Anyone ever run across a Trice-Nelson marriage or know where the Nelson came from?

Subject: response to Mary Lou

I'm not sure how to respond to Mary Lou.

My James Trice from Orange Co, NC was born May 1, 1757 (Bible record) he died Feb 1 1833 in Montgomery Co. Tenn. He married Susanna Leigh . The list of 12 children I have does not include a James Trice but son Bingham Trice was born Jan. 11, 1789 in Orange Co. NC. Sounds like perhaps the same family or close relations. Could be a child from a first marriage???

My line is: James Trice 5/1/1757 Orange Co. NC . Bingham Trice 1/11/1789 Orange Co. N.C. .. George W. Trice 1834 Tenn ... William H. Trice 1880 Stewart Co. Tenn .... George H. Trice 1907 Henderson, Tenn

ALBRITTON, BAILEY, GREN, MCLENDON posted by June McClary on 07/19/97
My great grandmother was Margaret (Maggie) Olivia Trice McLendon. She married James Alan (or Alain) McLendon and is buried in the Shubuta, Mississippi cemetary. Can you tell me anything about her? Any info will be appreciated.

June, In the TRICES of North Carolina, Georgia and Alabama by Olive Lynn Trice Jackson your "Margaret Olivia "Maggie" Trice b. July 20, 1866 d. April 26, 1933 and bur. In Shubuta (MS) Memorial Cemetery m. Dec. 3, 1885 in her father's home at Kizer Hill, AL to James Allan McLendon, Jr., son of James Allan McLedon, Sr. and Susan Trice (Susan is reportedly a daughter of Elisha and Susan Bailey Trice though she does not appear with that family in the census records under that name.)"

Margaret Olivia Trice was the daughter of Stephen J. Trice born around 1839 in Georgia and his first wife, Joanna Matilda Albritton.

"Steve farmed and practiced medicine in the tradition of his father, Elisha, and his great grandfather, John Trice. Joanna died in 1878 and was buried in Shubuta, Mississippi."

"Shortly after the death of his first wife, Steve remarried, this time to Mattie Gren who lived a mile southwest of the Trice place in Choctaw County, Alabama."

Hope this helps in your search.

Hello: Saw a post this AM in reply to a query about Margaret Olivia Trice. In it the following was stated:

"Steve farmed and practiced medicine in the tradition of his father, Elisha, and his great grandfather, JOHN TRICE." from the book by Olive Lynn Trice. This was posted in a reply by Kathryn Brown Young.

My question is this: Who was the above JOHN TRICE who practiced medicine?..Are we talking about John Trice, who died in Jones Co., GA in 1812?...Just curious, as this John is my line and I've heard reference to him as "Doctor" before...wanted to know if anyone has any more information on this.

HOLLAND, HORN posted by Alice McBride on 07/27/97
I am researching Holland's in Benton Co, Miss. and noticed your last name is Trice. My maiden name was Trice my fathers family comes from Oklahoma and Jack Co. Texas. He is the son of Zechariah and Alma Horn Trice and was born in Ryan Ok. We have the Trice's way back to Georgia in 1640. If I can find it in my mothers files you might like a copy if you are working on the Trice name. My sister might have a copy of those records at her home in Shreveport, La.
Alice... how about sharing your records with us?

Dear Nancy, I was surprised to see your surname on the Tennessee archives for USGenWeb. I know I don't know you, nor do you know me. But the surname of Trice has come across my desk recently. I have just gotten into genealogy, and have been tracing my family roots.

Are you related to any of these Trices?
Genola Best Trice b. 5/31/1918
Claude Trice
Joyce Trice b.8/28/1937
Jerrell Claude Trice b.6/4/1943
Shelby Dean Trice b.7/31/1939
Billy Mitchell Trice b. 12/16/1949
Rita Trice b.12/30/1955
Freda Trice b.12/30/1955
This is a much removed part of my family. But Genola was a Best, and that is our family name. At any rate, I am sure you are into genealogy, so even if it belongs to your husband's family, you may find interest in this line.
