          The following information describes common fixed for typical modems. Most modem problems can be fixed by installing the new driver/firmware or by installing a special initialization string. Instructions for installing the init string can be found here.

    1. Go to My Computer
    2. Dial Up Networking
    3. Single click the Vision icon (figure 1)
    4. Click on File and then Properties
    5. Click Configure at the bottom (figure 2).
    6. Click Connection at the top.
    7. Click Advanced at the bottom.
    8. In the blank line labelled Extra Settings enter the appropriate string for your modem.
    9. Some soft modems work better with Flow Control either set to Software or disabled entirely.
